Top 3 things to know as a Digital Marketer

Always know the depth of water before entering it”. We all know this is a safe approach. This applies to digital marketing too. Let us try to understand what are the things to keep in mind before you go ahead and do digital marketing.

Understand thy customers

Everyone does not have the same needs. If we did, we’d all be robots. Since our needs, wants, preferences differ a lot, it is important to understand them. You don’t have to know everyone’s requirements, but you must definitely know your customers’ needs. It is ultimately them that you’re going to cater to.

Always respect your customer opinion and feedback

“One who does not respect feedback and opinion are way far from their success”. History has a lot of examples of companies failing. Many of those companies offered great products, great services and added a lot of value.

Why did they still fail? It’s a simple answer. They did only what they wanted to do. They made great products and great services but did not care to know if they are actually useful to people. Even in case where they were useful, such companies did not care to find out how happy the customers were using them. All this points to a simple logic that two-way communication is better than one-way communication. As a digital marketer, you should always know what your clients feel about your services and how much value it has added to them.

Never spam customers

No company would like to see their products unsold. They want to sell products to customers, make a profit and thus keep the business cycle going. On the same hand, the companies’ marketing efforts are also decided towards achieving this objective. While all this seems very ideal, a lot of companies end up spamming the customers. Spamming is nothing but bombarding the customers or potential customers with the intention to drive them to purchase a product or service of the company. In simple words, it is either too much advertising, too much calling and any other marketing effort that is done too much to the same person. But, this is no longer relevant.

The thought of the companies here is that the more the name of the company and product is shown to the customers, the higher chances of them buying it. But, this is a thought of the old world. Customers today are very well aware of what a marketing effort is and what spamming is. For example, tele-sales was a widely popular method to convert potential customers to customers. But, a lot of companies keep calling a lot that now people now avoid any toll-free incoming call. When was the last time you picked up a toll-free call in the first instance?

This simply speaks for itself that you as a digital marketer should ensure that the customers are not spammed. Not just inconvenience to the customers, it is also a shot in the leg for companies as they tend to lose out customers.

Make sure you're following these 3 basics and they will surely take you a long way in your digital marketing career.
